http://e-journals.irapublishing.com/index.php/IRAJTMA/article/view/178

This study aimed to calculate the volume of air required by a blower to transfer tapioca flour from the dryer unit to the shifter unit in a factory with a production capacity of 35 tons per day. The flour transfer process utilizes a blower to generate sufficient airflow. Still, it often experiences instability caused by factors such as blower speed fluctuations, material load variations, and pipe blockages. The research was conducted over one month using data collection methods that included interviews and direct observation. Analysis results showed that the cross-sectional area of the blower pipe was 0.6358 m², the airflow velocity was 1.517 m/s, and the airflow rate reached 0.965 m³/s. The total air volume required by the blower to move the flour was calculated to be 27,792 m³ per day. The findings highlight the importance of properly regulating and maintaining the blower system to ensure efficiency in tapioca flour production.
Nurlianna TariganNelson SilitongaIvo Jones Sitorus

http://e-journals.irapublishing.com/index.php/IRAJTMA/article/view/181

During turning, most energy is converted into heat, which spreads to the cutting tool, chips, and workpiece. Heat transfer occurs via conduction and can cause tool wear. To reduce this, coatings with low thermal conductivity are used. This study aims to analyze heat absorption and heat capacity of uncoated carbide and TiCN + Al₂O₃ + TiN coated carbide tools during cast iron turning. Tests were conducted at 160, 210, and 260 m/min cutting speeds. Temperatures were measured using a K-type thermocouple placed at the tooltip. Results show the coating effectively reduces heat penetration into the tool. The coated carbide required 64.5 J/K for a 1 K temperature rise, while the uncoated only needed 1.5 J/K. This indicates uncoated tools heat up faster and wear more quickly.
M. Sobron Yamin LubisAbrar RizaHan HanNathan Ferdiantino Hidayat

http://e-journals.irapublishing.com/index.php/IRAJTMA/article/view/189

The metal-cutting process in manufacturing operations plays a crucial role in achieving a product's desired dimensions, sizes, and shapes; SKD 61 steel is widely used in the mold-making industry due to its excellent hardness properties. This study evaluates the effect of varying feed rates on tool wear during dry milling using a 2-flute carbide end mill cutter. A series of experimental tests were conducted using a manual milling machine to investigate the influence of feed rate variation on tool life. The feed rate variations used were 42 mm/min, 98 mm/min, and 230 mm/min. Other machining parameters were kept constant: spindle speed at 1320 rpm, cutting depth of 0.5 mm, and a tool diameter of 10 mm. The results showed that increasing the feed rate directly accelerated tool wear. The maximum tool wear, 0.6 mm, was reached at different times for each feed rate: 115 minutes (42 mm/min), 95 minutes (98 mm/min), and 80 minutes (230 mm/min). These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing cutting parameters to extend tool life and improve machining efficiency when working with SKD 61 steel components.
Arthasasta Sharon RumbiakHardy Sari PutraM. http://e-journals.irapublishing.com/index.php/IRAJTMA/article/view/183

Centrifugal pumps are widely used to move fluids through increased pressure efficiently. This study examines the effect of series and parallel pump configurations and valve opening variations on flow characteristics in a pressurized piping system. A laboratory experiment method with two repetitions was used. The results showed turbulent flow at 50%, 75%, and 100% valve openings with Reynolds numbers above 10,000. In comparison, at a 25% opening, series pumps tend to produce laminar flow (Re < 600), and parallel pumps maintain transitional/turbulent flow (Re > 4,000). The recommendation is to use series pumps for high pressure and parallel for large discharge, with a minimum valve opening of 25% for optimal efficiency.

Hotman GintingJimy LinggaJufrizal JufrizalIndra Hermawan

http://e-journals.irapublishing.com/index.php/IRAJTMA/article/view/185

Centrifugal pumps are widely used in industry and civil engineering to move fluids by increasing pressure efficiently. This study analyzes the effect of valve opening variations on series and parallel pump configurations simultaneously using a laboratory experiment method with two repetitions. The results show that parallel pump configurations are generally more efficient than series, especially at 50% and 25% valve openings. The maximum efficiency is achieved at 75% valve opening with a value of around 33% for both configurations. Valve opening settings and pump configuration selection are very important to improve the performance and efficiency of pressure piping systems. It is recommended for small industries to use parallel pump configurations with optimal valve opening operations of around 75% for energy efficiency and cost savings. Developing an automatic valve opening control system is also recommended to maximize efficiency, extend equipment life, and optimize fluid distribution.
David Jomantes MuntheJimy LinggaJufrizal JufrizalMuhammad Idris

http://e-journals.irapublishing.com/index.php/IRAJTMA/article/view/190

The growing volume of waste has encouraged the use of fuel derived from waste as an alternative energy source. However, its combustion releases flue gas containing harmful pollutants. This study assesses the effectiveness of a spray tower in reducing the opacity and temperature of flue gas generated from the combustion of a mixture of waste-based fuel and sawdust. Experiments used three fuel masses and three system setups: no sprayer, two sprayers, and four sprayers. Results showed that the spray tower reduced opacity from 33 per cent to about 15 per cent with two sprayers and 11.2 per cent with four sprayers. Gas temperature decreased from 65 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees and 35 degrees Celsius. A higher number of sprayers led to greater pollutant reduction. This technology shows promise as an environmentally friendly method for controlling emissions.
Ilmi IlmiJunjungan SimamoraSuherman SuhermanZufri Hasrudy Siregar
