Experimental Analysis of the Effect of Oil Type on Temperature and Fuel Consumption in a 125cc 4-Stroke Motorcycle

This study analyzes the effect of oil type on exhaust gas temperature and fuel consumption in a 125cc 4-stroke motorcycle. Three kinds of SAE 10W-40 oil were used: mineral, semi-synthetic, and full synthetic. Tests were conducted at idle with varying rpm and while cruising at varying speeds. Temperature was measured using a thermo gun, while fuel consumption was measured using a burette. Results showed that full synthetic oil produced the most stable temperature and lowest fuel consumption, while mineral oil demonstrated the highest temperature and consumption, especially at high rpm. This efficiency is attributed to the chemical characteristics and thermal stability of the full synthetic oil. This study provides a novel contribution by testing a classic air-cooled motorcycle under static and dynamic conditions, thus better reflecting real-world use.
