Abstrak

Studi ini merupakan penyelidikan terhadap penyebab kegagalan pada bagian alat pemisah karet alam dengan air yang dikenal dengan nama Centrifuge jenis LRH 410. Adapun bagian yang mengalami kerusakan ialah pada bagian lock ring ang berfungsi sebagai pengunci utamanya. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mendapatkan perbandingan nilai kekuatan tarik, kekerasan bahan, dan komposisi unsur-unsur penyusun dari kedua jenis lock tersebut. Penyelidikan ini meliputi kunjungan lapangan ke lokasi kejadian untuk mengumpulkan data-data awal kegagalan dan mengirimkan sampel ke Laboratorium. Spesimen dibedakan atas 2 jenis, yaitu bahan lock ring yang rusak (LR-R) dan bahan lock ring yang masih baik (LR-B). Pengujian tarik dilakukan dengan menggunakan sistem metrik standar E8M-99 ASTM. Uji kekerasan menggunakan metode uji kekerasan Brinell. Pengamatan struktur mikro pada lock ring (spesimen) bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur mikro dari spesimen. Analisis komposisi unsur-unsur bahan lock ring menggunakan spectrometer. Hasil uji tarik diperoleh bahwa kekuatan luluh bahan LR-R hanya 50% dibandingkan dengan LR-B. Berdasarkan pengujian kekerasan material terlihat bahwa nilai kekerasan LR-R lebih rendah dibandingkan LR-B. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian komposisi diperoleh bahwa kandungan unsur Carbon pada LR-R lebih rendah 50% dibandingkan dengan LR-B. Dengan demikian bahan LR-R akan lebih cepat aus ketika dioperasikan dibandingkan dengan bahan LR-B.
