Below is a summary of the duties and ethical behavior in accordance with the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, addressing the roles of journal editors, reviewers, and authors.
1. Journal Editors
1.1 Publication Decisions
Editors must evaluate manuscripts based on their academic merit without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, nationality, or other personal characteristics.
1.2 Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher.
1.3 Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the express written consent of the author.
2. Reviewers
2.1 Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve the quality of the manuscript through editorial communication.
2.2 Confidentiality
All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
2.3 Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
2.4 Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation.
3. Authors
3.1 Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance.
3.2 Data Access and Retention
Authors are required to provide the raw data related to the manuscript for editorial review when requested.
3.3 Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if they have used the work and/or words of others, this must be appropriately cited or quoted.
3.4 Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit the same manuscript describing essentially the same research to more than one journal simultaneously.
